Goodbye, USA

urban nomads

The week since the ADU Tour has been a blur.    We have been hopping from house to house in between AirBnB guests.  One night sleeping in the bus, a few nights sleeping on the floor of the demoed but not yet rebuilt studio, a few nights back at the …

Portland ADU Tour

the word is apparently out…  We had blocked out a week without guests in the garage so that we could wrap up some last minute items before the Portland ADU tour came through on sunday.  It was actually a good chance to test out that whole balance issue we talked …

Hitting the Reset Button

sometimes you just have to know when to say when. This last week was one of those times.  We’ve been burning the candle at both ends and holding a torch under the middle for a bit too long.  It’s slowly been becoming more clear, but moving into last weekend it …

False deadlines and launch parties

The craziness continues…  The weekend saw us at exactly 29 days since we first stepped foot back into this creepy house and started knocking out walls in an attempt to make it somehow better.  Not long after, we had set the date as a false deadline for ourselves to be …

Cleaning Up

and it’s so rewarding…  Wow, the last few weeks have been such a whirlwind.  We’ve been pushed to our limits physically, mentally and emotionally.  We’ve each had our days where we’ve reached our wits end and broke down and we’ve each helped the other find solid ground again…and that may …

Introducing MakerFlat

If we can ever get the doors put back in…It hit me like a ton of bricks earlier this week that i’m horrible at saying no.  It just doesn’t seem to be in my vocabulary.  Here we are, in the middle of what is turning into maybe the fastest remodel …

Our Crazy Lives

It’s been one of those weeks…  One of those weeks where we spend at least a few minutes each day kind of checking in with ourselves and realizing how exactly un-normal we are.  It’s not all by choice.  We can still remember the days when we had “normal” jobs and …

Time flies when…

pretty much always   Our attention has been focused primarily on landscaping the last few weeks.  Trying to find a dry window for our concrete guy (hopefully we still want to call him that after the forms come off) to build the frames for, and pour our concrete wall and …

Getting there…

We’re continuing to make/finish our home base.   Funny how it’s the little things that make your house (okay, our garage) a home.  When we were in the thick of this project we were making absolutely everything by hand.  I had grandeur dreams of that being true down to the …

03/16/2015 – 620 days/51363 miles

From Seattle, I continued south through Portland and San Francisco. I stayed with a friend in Portland who took me on a couple nice rides around the area. We went west out to the coast and rode along it for … Continue reading →

Hours in the day

There just aren’t enough of them…   Seriously, sometimes I just can’t figure out where the day goes. Let’s take a quick look at my life shall we? I’m unemployed,  we purposefully have no major commitments, we don’t really watch tv to speak of, and to top it all off I …

Final stretch Home

A lot sooner than we expected. We spent the next day driving around chico breaking our “new” engine in.  Stop and go driving, highway driving, fast, slow, stopping, starting, idling…you name it- we did it.  We actually know our way around chico better than most towns we’ve visited, and we …

for the love of Tequila

both the drink and the town. We made the quick trip from tonala to tequila and pulled in with giant smiles on our faces.  Our shortest road day in weeks, a town we know and have missed, and knowing that we are only one day away from the pacific… all’s …

on money and freedom

and finding the balance… These days of long driving hours take us to places of deep conversation and deep thoughts.  Time to reflect and look at the past and the future.  Time to make concerted decisions and alter paths.  What else would we do when driving impossibly slow for hours …

Tires (Tyres)

Who doesn’t like a new pair, or four, of shoes? We have been needing new tires for a while and had been holding on for the lower USA to buy them. We have had several punctures, destroyed a tyre driving on it flat, replaced that with a second-hand tire, and ended up with three different types of […]

No time to burn

After a couple of months travelling with no set deadlines it was a bit of a shock to suddenly have to be at a certain place at a certain time.  Fortunately that place and that time was Burning Man 2014, so it wasn’t like we were rushing to the dentist’s office or anything unpleasant. The […]

Between two worlds

Now that we know when we’re leaving it’s all about checking things off the list.  We’ve done this before.  Been through the experience of literally wrapping up life at home in order to take off for an extended trip.  We should remember the feeling.  But it feels as if it’s …

Serving up Style

What a whirlwind.  We have been exceptionally busy.  All for good, but busy nonetheless.  The stress has remained in check and while im working hard im enjoying it again.  We’ve been moving in and out of our place as AirBnB guests arrive and we’ve been spending long days at the …

Stress, the ugly beast

Im slowly coming to grips with something I’ve really always known.  I apparently am a stress case.  I guess everyone else already knew this but i’m just realizing it now (again).  Don’t get me wrong, i knew i used to be one.  I had started young.  I had ulcers in …
