Saturday Shoutout: West County Explorers Club

West County Explorers Club
This might be the best website you’ve never heard of.  I’m kind of afraid of even telling you about it because I’m worried you’ll all start going over there instead of here.
(I say that only half-joking.  The WCXC is really that good.)
Since early 2012, Nik Schulz has been writing pretty prolifically on topics which include destination and overland travel, gear and product reviews, and skill development – among many others.  He also has about the best collection of sexy photos I’ve found over on his Pinterest page.
He and his girlfriend Natalie base camp out of western Sonoma County, CA, but load up their nicely-built Montero for adventures throughout the west on the regular.  Together, they write and photograph each journey for the pages of WCXC in a way that’s both informative about the places they visit and as comfy and disarming as a family photo album.
And that word, “disarming,” in a nutshell, is what makes his site among my favorite on the web.  In a world of lifestyle websites that feel like they’re working excessively hard to grab your attention (guilty myself at times, no doubt), WCXC is doing anything but.  Nik doesn’t do this for any reason other than pleasure, so his webmastering, writing, and photography styles come off completely unpretentious; almost neighborly.
You can tell he has a passion for this stuff, and a knack for delivering common sense information to fellow adventurers that’s simple, clean, and fun.
Icing on the cake?  Nik and Natalie purchased a sailboat a while back, christened Carmana, and have spent this summer on the seas off the coast of the Pacific Northwest.  You can follow them on their other killer blog, The West County Bramble.
Tough life, I tell ya…
